David is a committed entrepreneur who is passionate about social change and using business as a tool to strengthen our communities. Blending these passions, the focus of his work over the past 25 years has been on building capacity within the social enterprise ecosystem on a regional, national, and international basis. He is the co-founder of Common Good Solutions, a founding member of the Social Enterprise Network of Nova Scotia, a past member of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Social Innovation Committee and teaches social finance as an adjunct faculty member in the University of Fredericton MBA Program.
I started Common Good Solutions at 57 years old with my business partner Andy Horsnell. We started the business to change the way business is done. We saw an urgent need to incorporate community needs into business models, whether it’s addressing youth retention or food security issues. We can’t afford to build business solely for the sake of profit, businesses can change the world, for the better, and that’s what CGS is here to help entrepreneurs and organizations do.
At Common Good Solutions (CGS) our vision is to see every business enrich its local community and the lives of its customers and employees. Our mission? To transform the way business is done by supporting and building strong social enterprises that nurture the health and sustainability of communities across Canada.
Part consultancy, part educator, part social impact incubator, CGS is a Canadian leader in the global social enterprise movement. Our sweet spot is bringing together people and organizations from across sectors to make social, cultural and environmental change through business.
