I started BluWave-ai in the fall of 2017, at the age of 51, after 20 years technical product management and marketing roles in the semiconductor industry focused on networking and supercomputing prior to which I had a 13 year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
During my 20+ year tech career, I have led innovative product development to successes in a diversity of markets at Canadian start-ups and TSX and Silicon Valley public companies where I ran large strategic product management organizations across global operations. I have grown large businesses in Europe, Asia and North American starting from start-up to building up to $110M annual revenue run rates. In industry leadership roles, I ran the High-Performance Computing Group in the Open Compute Project started by Facebook to create open industry computing platforms for low latency workloads. I also served as an advisory board member of the CERN OpenLab. For my educational background, I have a Masters in Elec Eng in Digital Signal Processing and an MBA in marketing both from the University of Ottawa along with a BEng from Royal Military College in Elec Engineering.
As AI became a technology that was more at the forefront of innovation, I made the link between the two and set out to create my own company dedicated to this goal of applying AI to renewables with the mission of reducing the dependence of fossil fuels in electricity grids and remote microgrids, by more efficiently using fluctuating renewable energy in real time and not waste it. The company’s goal is to become the premier global renewable energy AI company. We are well on the way to that mission winning the top smart grid start-up at the World Energy Congress 2019.
While running in Hawaii I was inspired by seeing the solar farms in the Department of Energy’s Natural Energy Lab in the Hawaii lava fields. which made me think about how the work I was doing in networking and supercomputing could be applied to further the proliferation of renewable energy worldwide.
BluWave-ai uses artificial intelligence to accelerate the adoption and use of renewable energy sources by communities, corporations, and utilities. Our machine learning platform balances the cost, availability, and reliability of different energy sources – renewable and non-renewable – with energy demand in real-time. This lets utilities, enterprises, remote communities, and governments optimize their energy decisions for sustainability, reliability, and affordability.
BluWave-ai is pleased to work with innovators in the energy industry including Tata Power, Hydro Ottawa, Summerside, and Natural Resources Canada to realize a greener, more sustainable grid for all. The company has 5 filed UTPSO patents which currently represents 5% of the global 2018 artificial intelligence (AI) patents of Canadian origin, shipping in production and has customers in North America, UK and India.
