Giving Back to the Community Award
Wise 50 Over 50 Award™

The Peter Stewart, Giving Back to the Community Award

Peter Stewart, a friend and advisor, who was instrumental in helping launch the inaugural 2017 WISE 50 over 50 Awards, passed away. Peter was known for giving of his time to anyone seeking help.

As soon as I learned of Peter’s passing I wanted to do something in his memory. I asked each of the 50 over 50 Award Judges to suggest one of the applicants who would be suitable for the award. I then asked Trefor Munn-Venn, Rhapsody Strategies (where Peter was working) and Peter’s wife, Cynthia to make the final decision on the winner.

The award was presented by Cynthia and two of her sons, to Catherine Winckler, Mindful Garden Digital Health, at the s-SAX Networking Event held in Ottawa, October 17, 2018.

Meet 218 winner, Catherine Winckler, Mindful Garden Digital Health

Catherine has recently been identified by BC Business magazine as one of the ’80 Top Women in STEM’ (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

She actively mentors other young women to go into the technology related fields, and is an active voice at conferences such as BC Tech Summit where she recently spoke on a panel with Dr. Andrew Sixsmith of AGE-WELL on ‘Eldercare as the Next Billion Dollar Market.’

Catherine has been on the Boards of Directors for BC Spaces for Nature and was instrumental in helping protect the Tatshenshini river shed as a UN World Heritage site.

She is also on the family Advisory of GENI (Geriatric Emergency Nursing Initiative) which as the Acute Care Geriatric Nurses Network was instigated following the death of her mother, Esther Winckler, at Chilliwack General Hospital in 2000. Undiagnosed delirium played a major role in the findings of the coroner and Catherine has made continuity of care issues central to volunteer efforts.

MindfulGarden was recognized as an Emerging Digital Health Company on the prestigious Ready-to-Rocket List in 2018.

As well as a personal gift from the Stewart family, Catherine was given a year of coaching from Rhapsody Strategies.

The Giving Back to the Community Award in Peter’s name will be given yearly.
