Having worked in management positions in social services for over 15 years, I’d always found immense satisfaction in helping older adults, particularly those who were lonely, isolated, or perhaps new to Canada and looking to make friends or connections to improve their health and well-being. . Nothing would make me happier than being able to brighten someone’s day by connecting them to community resources, or information that would improve their overall quality of life.

Two years ago, at the age of 50, I decided to take the plunge to create Silver Links News. It was the perfect time for me to build on my work with older adults in a way that would have greater community impact. I was also able to draw on my marketing and communications experiences from a couple of decades ago, which gave me the confidence and skills to enter the publishing industry. I was always a strong writer and marketer and I was finally able to create my dream job helping people!

Silver Links News is a local community and lifestyle magazine that inspires older adults over the age of 50 to live smart … age well.

The quarterly magazine features local businesses, community organizations, local events, community news and lifestyle tips to support the aging demographic in Halton and Peel regions. Many of our writers and expert contributors are older adults too. Our volunteer board is comprised of predominantly retired professionals, and we collectively volunteer for over 25 organizations.

Partial proceeds from our magazine and fundraising events is donated annually to local charities offering great programs for older adults. We have proudly supported organizations such as the Trillium Health Partners Foundation, the Arthritis Society, Acclaim Health, CARP Mississauga and have featured numerous community organizations in our magazines: Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association of Ontario, Brampton & Caledon Meals on Wheels, Indus Community Services, Visual Arts Mississauga, VON Peel, and many more.
