Maureen Tate – PAWS4Health

I started PAWS4Health Enterprises in 2002 and was the first person to bring Canadian-made fresh frozen raw dog food into Nova Scotia. I went from no customers to stocking 4 stores and selling to more than 50 regular customers in ten years. I sold that part of the business in 2012, and began selling a less heavy brand of raw dog food – again, Canadian made – but this time, raw and dehydrated so it’s a lighter product. The business is showing steady growth.
I started PAWS4Health in 2002 at the age of 64, having been interested in pet health for many years. I was the first person in Nova Scotia to bring in fresh frozen dog food from animals that were antibiotic and hormone free. My passion is pet health and providing the best naturally and organic foods and supplements available.
Maureen has been very involved in the local pet rescue and rehoming community. She started Second Chance Terrier Rescue and is the Atlantic Canadian Coordinator for the Aire Canada Airedale Terrier Rescue Network. She has helped families in Nova Scotia, and across Canada and the United States add to their families.
She was recognized for her work with a Golden Paw by the NS SPCA, and was also received a Halifax Award for her work in pet rescue and rehoming. For years she would pick up expired food from Global Pet Goods and other pet stores and deliver it on her own time and dime to rescues across Nova Scotia, NB, and PEI.
